CAREER AND COLLEGE READINESS SUMMIT TO BE HELD APRIL 14

Preparing students for life after high school remains a hot topic in education circles across the country.

At an upcoming summit, K-12, community college and university professionals in Mississippi will have the opportunity to discuss how to ensure all students are career and college ready when they earn their diploma.

The 2010 Mississippi College Readiness Summit begins at 9:30 a.m. April 14 at the Jackson State University E-Center in Jackson, Miss. The event is co-sponsored by the Mississippi ACT Council and ACT, Inc.

“One of the most valuable things we can do as education professionals is come together and share ideas about how we can better prepare our students for the future,” said Dr. Sam Bounds, chair of the Mississippi ACT Council and executive director of the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents.

The summit will feature a panel discussion with Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Hank Bounds, State Superintendent Dr. Tom Burnham and Dr. Eric Clark, executive director of the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Richard Ferguson, CEO and chairman of ACT, Inc.

Session topics include dual enrollment, college access and a legislative update. School administrators, guidance counselors, curriculum coordinators, admissions and retention personnel are strongly encouraged to attend.
