In appreciation of the Mississippi Congressional Delegation’s diligent effort to secure $95 million in student financial aid for all of Mississippi’s higher education students affected by Hurricane Katrina, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning and the University of Southern Mississippi are co-hosting a rally on Wednesday, March 22, at 4 p.m. in the Southern Miss Athletic Center—M Club. Guests of honor include Governor Barbour, Senator Cochran and other members of the Mississippi Congressional Delegation.
“We deeply appreciate the efforts of Governor Barbour, Senator Cochran and our congressional delegation who made it possible for Mississippi’s students to continue their education, no matter their personal circumstance, following Hurricane Katrina,” said Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Thomas C. Meredith. “Our Board, Institutional Executive Officers and Student Body Presidents are looking forward to publicly thanking our Governor and Federal Delegation.”
The Student Body Presidents from Mississippi’s eight public universities will host a reception immediately following the rally in the Grand Hallway of the Southern Miss Athletic Center.
Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, IHL governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
