Bob Owens, Board Member

Mr. Owens was appointed to the Board in 2004 by Governor Haley Barbour for a term to expire in May 2015. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Jackson State University and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Florida State University College of Law.

Mr. Owens is a partner in the law firm of Owens Moss, PLLC, in Jackson, MS where his primary area of practice is general and personal injury litigation. The firm is listed in Martindale-Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. The Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register™ is limited to only the most distinguished law practices and specifically those that have achieved the AV® rating in the Martindale-Hubbell® Law Directory. Mr. Owens is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Charles Clark Chapter of the American Inn of Court. In addition, he is past president of the Magnolia Bar Association and is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Hinds County Bar Association.

Mr. Owens was selected the 1997 Alumnus of the Year by the Department of History at Jackson State University. He was the 1981 recipient of the Jack H. Young, Sr. Award for the lawyer contributing the most to the profession; the 1999 recipient of the R. Jess Brown Award; and the 1993 recipient of the NAACP of Mississippi's Lawyer of the Year Award. In 1987, he received the Hinds County Bar Association's award for the largest jury verdict. He was awarded the Reginald Heber Smith Fellowship at Central Mississippi Legal Services from 1976-1981. In 1993, he was appointed to a U.S. Magistrate Selection Committee by a Chief United States Judge. He served on the Mississippi Supreme Court Rules Advisory Committee from 1991-1993 and the Mississippi Bar Disciplinary Complaints Tribunal.

Mr. Owens is president of the Steward Board at Little Bethel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He is married to Chancellor Denise Sweet Owens. They have four children, Selika, Bobby, Brittany, and Jason.
